A court was informed that a boxer, who received a prison sentence for repeatedly striking a child, was unaware of his own physical strength. Scott Reynolds, aged 38, admitted to hitting the child on three occasions. He informed law enforcement that he was distressed on 16 August, having formed the belief that the child was responsible for drowning two puppies. Residing at Salem Street, Gosberton, near Spalding, Reynolds entered a guilty plea to the charge of child cruelty and subsequently received a 36-week custodial sentence at Lincoln Crown Court. Stuart Lody, representing the prosecution, stated that Reynolds had initially contested inflicting bruising on the child’s buttocks, which was visible in photographic evidence. Testimony presented in court indicated that Reynolds is a trained boxer who, at times, failed to fully comprehend his own physical power. Mr. Lody clarified that Reynolds did not hold a caregiving role for the child. During mitigation, Anna Soubry stated that her client was surprised by the extent of the injuries and asserted that he had no intention of inflicting them. “He is very sorry,” she further remarked. Miss Soubry also mentioned that Reynolds had already spent several weeks in detention. Judge Catarina Sjolin Knight informed Reynolds that the offense warranted a custodial sentence.
