Brothers Sean and James Bowen experienced a shared triumph at Cheltenham racecourse when their horses finished in a dead heat. James Bowen, riding the Warren Greatrex-trained Quantock Hills, appeared poised for victory in the JCB Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle. However, his older brother Sean Bowen, aboard the Jack Jones-trained Teriferma, mounted a late challenge. Since the race judge was unable to separate the Pembrokeshire-born siblings, the outcome marked the first dead heat at the venue in eight years and the first for the brothers themselves. The only distinction between the two horses was their betting odds, with Quantock Hills priced at 11-2 and Teriferma at 18-1. Sean, aged 27, commented to Racing TV: “It’s probably something that hasn’t happened before, it’s good to do it at Cheltenham.” James, 22, stated: “To share it with my brother, it’s probably better than anyone else, I’d have felt really hard done by if I got done” Sean currently holds the lead in the Jumps Jockey championships, having secured 104 wins.
