Katie Boulter has advanced to the fourth WTA final of her professional career. The British number one, Katie Boulter, is set to enter the world’s top 25 rankings for the first time following her 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 victory over China’s sixth seed, Yue Yuan, securing her spot in the Hong Kong Open final. Boulter, aged 28, is scheduled to compete against Russian top seed Diana Shnaider, 20, on Sunday, aiming for her third WTA title of the current year. The second seed, currently ranked 29th globally but projected to rise to at least 23rd upon the next ranking update, seeks to augment her prior tournament wins in Nottingham and San Diego. Boulter, who achieved her previous highest ranking of 27th in March, stated: “I just wanted to finish my year on a career high, which is why today meant so much to me. I have actually done that, so I have got nothing to lose tomorrow. I am just going to swing free and enjoy it.” Boulter narrowly won the initial set, and the competitors exchanged four service breaks early in the second set before 26-year-old Yuan secured another break in the 12th game, leading to a decisive third set. The British player intensified her performance in the final set’s opening game, securing it with a forehand winner on her fourth break point, then rapidly established a 3-0 advantage when Yuan committed a double fault, conceding a double break. Boulter subsequently demonstrated significant resilience, holding off Yuan in an extended fourth game before ultimately securing the victory against the world number 45 with her sixth ace of the contest. She is set to face Shnaider for the first time; Shnaider, ranked 14th globally, defeated Canada’s reigning champion Leylah Fernandez 6-4, 6-2 in the second semi-final held on Saturday.
