A town that previously faced derision for its “dismal” Christmas lights has assured that this year’s celebration will be “magical”. Boston Borough Council announced its expectation of thousands of attendees for its three-day festival, commencing later today with the illumination switch-on scheduled for 18:45 GMT in Market Place. The council had previously encountered criticism regarding its insufficient festive lighting and a £20,000 artificial tree. Councillor Dale Broughton stated: “The Boston Christmas Festival has become a beloved tradition in our community, bringing joy and festive spirit to residents and visitors alike.” He further commented: “After the tremendous success of last year’s event, I’m thrilled to see it return for another magical weekend of holiday cheer.” The authority reported approximately 7,000 attendees at last year’s switch-on event, describing it as “the highest in footfall we have seen in many years visually,” and anticipates an increase in this figure. Additionally, an ice rink will be featured this year as part of the festivities, marking its debut.
