Following his hat-trick during Newport County’s 6-3 triumph against MK Dons, Bobby Kamwa, 24, expressed optimism that his statistical contributions are beginning to accumulate. The forward netted three goals within 58 minutes, contributing to the Exiles’ exciting victory last weekend. Kamwa, who joined Newport on a free transfer in August after departing Burton Albion, had previously registered only one goal across 22 appearances for the club before the decisive win against the Dons. This recent treble now marks his most successful goalscoring season to date, as the former Leeds United player has exceeded the three goals he scored for Burton during the 2022-23 season. Kamwa is now focused on achieving further offensive success. He stated, “I could smell in that game there would be goals and luckily I took my chances.” He further elaborated on his focus: “Stats have always been a thing for me – my end product. If it’s to do with the ability, I know I can play higher up. But it’s always been questions of stats, so I am happy I am starting to concentrate on end product.” The Cameroon-born player has featured in the starting lineup for 16 League Two matches this season and conveyed his appreciation to manager Nelson Jardim. He remarked, “I want to say thank you to the gaffer for trusting me.” Kamwa continued, “There are times when it hasn’t come off for me but he has stuck with me. I am happy I could repay him.” He also mentioned his commitment to improving his skills: “I do a lot of finishing, crossing after training. These are things I need to stick at and focus on. If I can get that right, I know what level I can play at.” Newport is scheduled to play Bromley on Thursday, 26 December, at 15:00 GMT, where they will seek to extend their positive momentum following the victory over MK Dons.
