An airline operating in the Channel Islands has announced what it describes as a “boost for the islands’ air connectivity” through the introduction of new flight services to Newcastle. Blue Islands confirmed that flights originating from Guernsey and Jersey are scheduled to commence on 3 May 2025 and will operate throughout the summer season. The carrier stated that these non-stop flights are expected to “transform” journeys between the Channel Islands and the north-east airport. Chris Ion, Newcastle Airport’s aviation development manager, commented: “Guernsey is a new destination for next summer and is a fantastic addition to our growing route network at Newcastle Airport.” Ronnie Matheson, chief revenue officer at Blue Islands, remarked that the “new schedule will make a real difference for the many thousands of customers wishing to fly between the north-east, Guernsey and Jersey, whom we’re sure will welcome the choice of up to three direct flights each week”. He further stated, “We’re confident that this will become a firm favourite in our route network.” Matt Thomas, chief executive for the Ports of Jersey, noted that air connectivity plays a “crucial role” in fostering the economic growth on the island. He added: “Therefore, it is encouraging to hear that Blue Islands is investing in increased connectivity to Newcastle for next summer and introducing a new region to their timetable.” Copyright 2024 BBC.
