Blackpool manager Steve Bruce has expressed his astonishment regarding the standard of play in League One since his arrival at the club. The 63-year-old took up his position at the club in September, marking his return to management since 2022, following the dismissal of Neil Critchley. Under Bruce’s leadership, the team secured four victories in his initial four League One matches. He has since steered the club to 13th place in the standings, having achieved two consecutive wins leading up to Saturday’s away game against Reading. Speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire, Bruce stated: “League One has surprised me enormously with some of the quality in there. There’s some big clubs with big budgets this year so all the more to beat and it’s a really difficult year this year.” He continued, “No disrespect to Wycombe, even though they’ve bought well and recruited well, nobody thought they would go on to win 10 or 11 on the spin to sit top of the league.” Bruce further elaborated on the league’s competitiveness, adding, “Then you’ve got Huddersfield, Charlton, Bolton, Stockport and it goes on and on – that’s why it’s such a competitive and difficult league, and one we’re enjoying.” Blackpool faces a demanding schedule around the new year, with seven matches scheduled for December and six for January. This demanding period could potentially lengthen, as their match against Rotherham was postponed last weekend due to Storm Darragh. Bruce commented on the fixture congestion, saying: “It’s ridiculous when we look at December and January. It’s usually a quiet month but I’ve learned in League One there’s no quiet months.” He further noted, “It could be seven or eight games in January. They’re going to come thick and fast so you’ll need your full squad to give you that cover.” Post navigation West Ham 2-1 Manchester United: A significant victory for Lopetegui’s side 16-Year-Old Gout Gout Breaks 200m Record, Becomes Fastest in History for His Age
