A minister from the Home Office has conveyed her sense of reassurance concerning the police operations in Birmingham, her home city, during the current Christmas period. Jess Phillips, the Labour Member of Parliament representing Birmingham Yardley, participated in a patrol alongside officers from West Midlands Police, accompanied by fellow minister Diana Johnson. Their patrol took place on what is commonly referred to as Black Eye Friday, a day recognized for an increase in incidents of violence and accidents linked to alcohol consumption, occurring as many individuals gather for pre-Christmas celebrations. Following the patrol, Ms. Phillips remarked: “I felt a sense of relief about the city that I live in that young women can go out and enjoy themselves.” Chief Constable Craig Guildford stated: “We want people to have a decent night out, but a safe night out.” He added, “The idea is we try to nip things in the bud early doors, but we police all the way through.” For further updates, BBC Birmingham is available on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram.
