In 2019, Billy Root marked his Glamorgan Championship debut at Sophia Gardens by scoring a century. The batter has now finalized a new agreement to remain with Glamorgan for the 2025 season. Since his arrival at the club in 2019, the 32-year-old has established himself as a key player, contributing to their Metro Bank One Day Cup victories in both 2021 and 2024. Root’s career statistics include 3,326 runs in first-class matches, 1,217 runs in List A cricket, and 357 runs in the T20 format. Root, who is the brother of England batter Joe, stated: “I’ve really enjoyed my time here over the last six seasons and I feel we’re really close to seeing something special happening at the club. I’m looking forward to being a part of that.” Mark Wallace, Glamorgan’s director of cricket, commented: “Billy has been a quality performer during his time at Glamorgan and it’s great that he’s committed to the club for next season.” Wallace added, “Billy has shown his adaptability and selflessness over the last few seasons, taking up several different roles in the line-up and we look forward to seeing him on the field with us in 2025.”
