On Tuesday, a spokesperson announced that former U.S. President Bill Clinton had been released from the hospital following treatment for the flu. Angel Ureña conveyed on X, previously known as Twitter, that “He and his family are deeply grateful for the exceptional care provided by the team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and are touched by the kind messages and well wishes he received.” Clinton had been admitted to Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., on Monday evening for observation and tests after experiencing a fever. The 78-year-old’s previous hospitalization occurred in 2021 in California, where he spent six days being treated for an infection that had entered his bloodstream. The 42nd U.S. president, whose term in the White House spanned from 1993 to 2001, has a history of cardiac health problems. At age 58 in 2004, he underwent quadruple bypass surgery following the discovery of extensive heart disease by doctors. A decade later, he had a blocked artery cleared after reporting chest pains. Since departing office, he has maintained an active public profile, establishing what would become the Clinton Foundation, an organization that collaborated with the American Heart Association to create the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. The former president, recognized for his fondness for fatty foods, adopted a vegan diet shortly after his second surgery. In 2016, he informed Politico, “I might not be around if I hadn’t become a vegan. It’s great.” This year, Clinton also participated actively on the presidential campaign trail, traveling nationwide to support Vice-President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign. Last month, he published his most recent book, titled *Citizen: My Life After the White House*. Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved. The BBC is not responsible for the content of external sites.
