The BBC Jersey team has successfully concluded its segment of the Thousand Mile Challenge, an initiative supporting Children in Need. This collective effort saw local BBC stations throughout the British Isles unite with the objective of swimming a substantial distance for Pudsey. The challenge stipulated that each participating station must swim a minimum of 24 miles (38.6km) during the period from Monday to Friday. Ultimately, the BBC Jersey team covered a distance of 27.3 miles (43.9 km) at the AquaSplash pool in St Helier. Alison Moss commenced BBC Jersey’s swimming activities for the day, completing 70 lengths in her concluding contribution. She remarked, “this is brilliant,” and expressed gratitude to Pudsey “for all his support.” For the challenge, Luca Bott Parkinson exchanged his television cameras for swimming attire. He further stated: “I’m so immensely proud of myself and the rest of the BBC Jersey team” and urged, “I want people to support Children in Need as much as possible.” Children in Need has pledged £109,916 to the Jersey Child Care Trust (JCCT) for the upcoming year, funding a three-year project designed to enable children with disabilities to attend mainstream nurseries. Alice Bennion, representing JCCT, indicated that the grant would finance two specialist support workers tasked with delivering “critical support.” She was present at the pool to encourage the BBC Jersey team upon the completion of their segment of the Thousand Mile Challenge. Ms Bennion also commented, “I mean it’s incredible the challenge,” and observed that the team displayed “an amazing commitment.” Stay updated with BBC Jersey on X and Facebook.
