A group representing BBC Cornwall successfully finished a 24-mile (39km) swimming challenge to support Children in Need. This initiative saw teams from all BBC local radio stations collectively swim 1,000 miles (1,609km) to generate funds for the organization, dedicated to enhancing the well-being of underprivileged children and young people across the UK. The Cornwall contingent, comprising Julie Skentelbery, Hannah Stacey, David Dixon, Lou Symons, Daphne Skinnard, and Francesca Carpenter, engaged in daily swims at various pools throughout the county during the current week. Their concluding laps were performed at the Polkyth leisure centre located in St Austell. Hannah Stacey, a Senior Journalist, expressed a slight sense of sadness regarding the conclusion of the challenge. “We have really enjoyed being a team and bonding and working in a pool together.” “I think it’s been quite a big life-changer for some of us.” Lou Symons, a Production apprentice, commented that the experience provided her with “an amazing sense of achievement.” “Doing this alone but doing it as a team as well – all of us doing this together and reaching out to so many different places and for such an amazing cause.” “It’s incredible”, she said.
