A well-known annual Christmas market has commenced this year, featuring an unprecedented number of local businesses participating. The Bath Christmas Market, a complimentary event situated in the city’s central area, will operate until December 15 and includes 230 traders. Extending across the historic city center, from Abbeygate Street to Milsom Street, the market draws thousands of attendees from various parts of the nation. Kevin Guy, who leads Bath and North East Somerset Council, stated, “It’s not just important to Bath and the local area, it’s one of the greatest markets in Europe and it’s an asset to us all.” Mr. Guy further commented, “It brings in tens of millions of pounds to the local economy. It supports local businesses.” This year’s participants include 80 vendors making their debut, and 40% of the registered businesses originate from Bath and its vicinity. According to Mr. Guy, a primary objective of the market is to bolster the local economy. He also mentioned, “We have 36 community groups taking part, which were given plots free of charge.” The Bath Christmas Market attracted more than 450,000 visitors last year. The council reported that in 2019, the market generated an estimated £25 million for the local economy. This amount subsequently rose to £34.3 million in 2022.
