A wildlife rescue organization has characterized a barn owl as “very lucky” after it was discovered ensnared to a tree by a kite line. Secret World reported that the creature’s wing tip was caught by the string, which had become wrapped around a tree in a garden located in Bristol. Following several weeks of rehabilitation, the owl has been released back into the same garden. “This rescue highlights the critical importance of removing litter, as it can have devastating impacts on wildlife,” stated a spokesperson for the charity. A spokesperson further added: “This was one very lucky Barn Owl.” The charity, based in Highbridge, Somerset, received a call in October concerning a barn owl tangled in a kite string in Bristol. “Realising the urgency, we dispatched one of our response drivers to rescue the owl,” the spokesperson explained. By the time their team arrived, another rescuer had already transported the owl to a local veterinary practice, and Secret World was subsequently requested to provide rehabilitation. They detailed that the owl, which received antibiotics, exhibited swelling under both wings but had no fractures. “It also had a bruised cere (the fleshy area around its nostrils), but was able to fly and exhibit normal behaviours,” the spokesperson affirmed. “After a few weeks of rehabilitation, allowing the swelling to subside and muscle strength to return, we were thrilled to release the owl back into the garden where it was found.”
