Bai Yulu achieved her initial victory as a member of the World Snooker Tour on Saturday. Following her third win in the qualifiers, she is now a single match away from potentially becoming the first woman to advance to the last-32 stage of the UK Championship. The 21-year-old Chinese player triumphed over world number 44 Scott Donaldson with a 6-5 score, securing the win by taking the final three frames. Bai, who previously claimed the Women’s World Championship title earlier this year, is scheduled to compete against England’s world number 21 Jack Lisowski in the concluding qualifying round on Wednesday at 19:00 GMT. This match will determine her entry into the main draw in York. The last-32 phase is set to commence on Saturday, November 23, with broadcast coverage provided by the BBC. In this stage, the top 16 seeded players will be paired against 16 qualifiers, and Ronnie O’Sullivan, an eight-time champion, will be defending his title. Ranked 120th, Bai had already made history as the first woman this century to achieve consecutive victories in a ranking event, having defeated Jamie Jones and Farakh Ajaib. This season marks her debut on the professional tour, and prior to this week, she had not secured a win on the main tour. The UK Championship tournament is scheduled to run from November 23 to December 1 at the York Barbican.
