Defending champion Francesco Bagnaia secured victory at the Malaysian Grand Prix, surpassing rival Jorge Martin, thereby sustaining his pursuit of the MotoGP title. Bagnaia, a two-time title holder, crossed the finish line three seconds ahead of the Spanish competitor, marking his 10th Grand Prix win of the current season. This triumph by the Italian ensures that the championship outcome will be determined during the season’s concluding weekend, with Martin currently holding a 24-point lead over Bagnaia. “Jorge was very aggressive, he knew he needed to leave me behind but our pace was too good,” Bagnaia stated. He added, “Like always in the race on Sunday, I can attack and be more aggressive.” Martin, aged 26, had the opportunity to clinch his inaugural championship if he had finished nine points ahead of Bagnaia. He exchanged the lead with the Italian multiple times during the initial laps before ultimately securing second place. Martin commented, “We were making a good show for the first few laps but as soon as he overtook me it was impossible to fight.” He further explained, “At the end I tried again to put on some pressure but I almost crashed, so I think getting eight points from this is unbelievable.” An incident on turn two early in the race led to a red flag, following a collision involving Brad Binder, Jack Miller, and Fabio Quartararo. Miller received medical attention trackside but did not sustain any serious injuries, while Binder was unable to rejoin the race. Six-time champion Marc Marquez, who was positioned for a third-place podium finish, crashed out, subsequently yielding his spot to Enea Bastianini and finishing 12th. The championship’s final race, originally scheduled for Valencia on 15 November, has been canceled due to flooding in the region. A proposal has been put forward to reschedule the concluding race in Barcelona. Carlos Ezpeleta, Dorna Sports’ chief sporting officer, remarked, “We think that Barcelona is the best possible place given the proximity to Valencia, given that a lot of people were already travelling through to get to the finale.” The overall standings are as follows: 1. Jorge Martin (Spa/Pramac Racing) 485 points 2. Francesco Bagnaia (Ita/Ducati) 461 3. Marc Marquez (Spa/Gresini Racing) 369 4. Enea Bastianini (Ita/Ducati) 368 5.
