A novel type of autonomous bus is slated for testing within an urban environment. This vehicle will be deployed in Milton Keynes starting in early December, and if successful, trials involving passengers could commence next year. Smart City Consultancy, identified as one of the entities participating in the initiative, indicated that the service has the potential to transport individuals to various destinations throughout Milton Keynes. The StreetCAV (connected and autonomous vehicles) technology is scheduled for exhibition at an event in centre:mk this Friday. A spokeswoman for the project stated: “The fully accessible shuttles will be connected to a new city centre control room via a specifically designed communications network allowing vehicles to be supervised and managed remotely.” These driverless buses represent one of the concepts being showcased at the new Smart City Experience Centre, which is opening at centre:mk’s Middleton Hall. This undertaking is a collaborative venture between the private and public sectors.
