Centre-back Auston Trusty has stated that Celtic needs to “seal the deal” in matches after gaining an advantage, as he aims to contribute to Brendan Rodgers’ team reaching the League Cup final. The Parkhead club is scheduled to play Aberdeen in Saturday’s semi-final, following an impressive recovery by the Dons from a two-goal deficit to secure a draw in Glasgow’s east end just two weeks prior. “When you are up 2-0 then you want to seal the deal in the game,” Trusty commented. He added, “We’ll go into this game very confident. But if we are in that position again then [we have to] seal the deal.” Trusty further explained the team’s philosophy: “We approach every game as a challenge so that is going to be the mindset again. We don’t take any game easy or lightly. That is about respecting our opponent.” He continued, “But it doesn’t matter who we are playing, we want to go out there and play our game. If we do that, the game takes care of itself.” Trusty concluded his remarks by saying, “You focus on who you are playing against, but you also really focus on within.” For the first time since his arrival at Celtic two months ago, Trusty played alongside his USA team-mate Cameron Carter-Vickers, who made his return from a toe injury against Dundee earlier in the week. The former Sheffield United player remarked, “I’ve known him for quite a bit now so it was nice playing alongside him. Overall it was really good,”. Due to Liam Scales being rested, Trusty was deployed on the left side of central defence, which is his natural position, marking his debut in that role for Celtic. Despite this, he expressed willingness to adapt to any required position. “I’ll do whatever is needed for the team,” he stated. “That’s my mindset and I think I’ve shown my capabilities to play any position along the backline.”
