A graphic designer has announced the completion of a George Michael “tribute with a twist,” crafted from 12,000 metal screws. Darren Timby, based in Sunderland, rendered the Wham! vocalist’s image by arranging zinc, gold-colored, and black screws on a white canvas. This artwork, requiring approximately 90 hours for its creation, was finished in anticipation of the eighth anniversary of Michael’s passing on Christmas Day. Timby expressed his desire for the piece to “find a home where it can be appreciated,” whether displayed in a gallery or acquired by a dedicated George Michael superfan. Timby, who mentioned he began producing “screw art” in 2020, stated that Michael’s music consistently served as a “guilty pleasure” for him. He elaborated, “I wanted to create a tribute with a twist to remember him.” The finished piece portrays Michael with his distinctive 1980s hairstyle. Timby further detailed his method for utilizing screws to achieve the desired visual effect. He remarked, “A little squiggle here, or a straight line of screws there, can change the highlights and the contrast.” He added, “Sometimes just one or two extra screws can really make a difference, and the hair takes up the majority of the piece.” Post navigation Design Unveiled for Poole Museum’s Walrus Tusk-Inspired Sculpture Knitted D-Day Exhibition Raises Awareness
