Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta attributed his team’s success against Sporting on Tuesday night to their exceptional “effectiveness and efficiency,” calling it the “big difference.” The Gunners secured a decisive 5-1 victory during their away match against the Portuguese champions, a team that had previously defeated Manchester City 4-1 in their most recent Champions League appearance. Prior to this fixture, Arsenal’s record in Champions League away games since their return to the competition in 2023 stood at just one win from seven matches. Furthermore, the team had entered the contest having failed to score in their last four consecutive away trips. However, the team dispelled previous worries regarding their performance in European away matches. Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Arteta commented: “We played a team at home I don’t think have lost in nearly 18 months.” He continued: “They have been in top form, they have been better than anybody they play here, so to play to the level, with determination and purpose, we have done today – I am very pleased.” Arteta added: “The team played with so much courage, and watching them live I realised how good they are. A big performance, a big win and I am really happy.” When questioned if the victory served as a significant statement, Arteta responded: “For sure, because the players have to make it happen, then that creates belief that the next one they play they will be better prepared.” He further explained: “That is when you see the consistency because the ability to do it, we were so effective and so efficient when we started to attack the opposition goal and today that was a big difference.” Post navigation Northern Ireland’s Nations League Opponents Revealed Lee Carsley Expects Jack Grealish to be Available for England’s Nations League Matches
