An art exhibition, titled “Cycle? Walk? Art?”, has commenced in Wolverhampton, showcasing artworks that celebrate cycling and walking. The displayed pieces were produced during community workshops held between July and September. Participants in these workshops engaged in various creative pursuits, including creative writing activities, sketching, mixed media projects, painting, and photography. This exhibition in Wolverhampton is scheduled to continue until 1 December, hosted at the 01902 urban room gallery space located in Queen Square. The activities encompassed collage creation, participation in guided painting and photography excursions along canals and disused railway paths, shoe customization, and nature walks for gathering flowers and plant life. Additionally, Dudley hosted a series of photowalks, while a theatre production in Solihull aimed to motivate women to engage in cycling. Residents in Sandwell were involved in creating their own maps. Over a three-month period, a total of sixteen artists conducted 91 workshops throughout the West Midlands region. A selection of the artworks produced during these sessions has been made available for viewing online. Mark Corbin, who serves as the director of the network resilience team at Transport for West Midlands, commented: “We’re thrilled to see such powerful artistic expressions come out of this project and hope it encourages more people to consider sustainable travel.” Local artist Ewan Johnston, the curator of the exhibition, stated: “I hope visitors feel inspired by the artwork and consider how to embrace active travel in their own lives.” For further updates, follow BBC Wolverhampton & Black Country on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram.
