The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has given its approval to Arsenal’s strategy for achieving net-zero emissions by the year 2040. The SBTi is an international organization dedicated to assisting companies in establishing ambitious goals for reducing emissions, consistent with current climate science. Previously, in 2020, Arsenal, known as the Gunners, distinguished itself as the inaugural Premier League club to endorse the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework. The net-zero strategy outlined by Arsenal encompasses several key areas, including eliminating carbon from energy use at Emirates Stadium and the club’s training facility, lowering emissions associated with travel, decreasing waste generation, and collaborating with both partners and suppliers to diminish emissions stemming from the products acquired by the club. Hannah Mansour, Arsenal’s director of environmental, social, and governance (ESG), stated: “We’re proud that our net-zero target has been approved by the SBTi, which is part of our commitment to being thorough and transparent in reducing our footprint. We continue to take actions that deliver against this target, focused on reducing emissions across our value chain.” “The full extent of the actions we’re taking for our environment go beyond the scope of our SBTi-approved net-zero target. We will also continue to partner for our goals with our commercial and local partners to help our communities adapt to the effects of climate change.”
