Arsenal’s goalkeeper, David Raya, has stated that recent alterations to the team’s defensive lineup, necessitated by injuries and suspensions, have not impacted his performance. This comes as Riccardo Calafiori made his return from injury over the weekend, contrasting with the announcement that Ben White will be sidelined for several months after undergoing knee surgery. Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League fixture against Sporting on Tuesday, the Spain international reiterated his stance, stating, “I don’t think it has affected me in any way.” He further elaborated on the team’s depth, adding, “We have had some injuries but we have a great squad. We rely on anyone that can play in those positions and I know they’re going to do their job 100%.” Raya concluded, “No matter who plays there, we feel confident that they’re going to do the right job.” Raya has established himself as Arsenal’s undisputed primary goalkeeper, having secured the starting role after competing with Aaron Ramsdale following his transfer from Brentford in the summer of 2023. When questioned about feeling more settled during his second year with the club, Raya responded, “It’s a matter of adaptation. Everything has a process.” He reflected on his initial period, stating, “At the start of last season, there was a lot of debate and noise outside, but from January it has changed completely. I was more confident, I was showing what I was capable of, and after the summer I felt I was in the right place.”
