Authorities have apprehended five individuals in connection with the suspected murder of a taxi driver, whose body was discovered in his vehicle three decades prior. Ethsham Ul-Haq Ghafoor, referred to by loved ones as Shami, was discovered deceased in his car, his hands secured to the steering wheel, during the early morning of November 22, 1994. A milkman located the 26-year-old victim at Lambley Lane Playing Fields in Gedling, Nottinghamshire. On Friday, Nottinghamshire Police declared a renewed investigation into Mr Ghafoor’s death, simultaneously announcing a £50,000 reward for relevant information. The police force confirmed that four men, aged 51, 52, 57, and 64, along with a 47-year-old woman, were taken into custody on Wednesday under suspicion of murder. It was further stated that the individuals arrested reside in the Sneinton and Bakersfield areas of Nottingham, and a significant police presence is expected in these locations as inquiries proceed. Assistant Chief Constable Rob Griffin reported that the police had received “numerous calls from the public” following the initiation of the appeal. He further urged, “Please continue to share our appeal and contact us with any information you may have.” According to police, Mr Ghafoor, who resided in Sherwood Rise, Nottingham, was last observed in Carlton Square around 02:00 GMT, with his body being discovered at 04:30. At the time of his demise, he and his wife were anticipating the birth of a daughter, and he was also a father to a five-year-old son. While several individuals were arrested during the initial investigation, no convictions have ever been secured.
