An individual has been taken into custody in connection with the suspected murder of Kyran Durnin. Kyran, last observed alive at the age of six, was reported as a missing person from his residence in Drogheda, County Louth, during August. By October, gardaí (Irish police) initiated a murder inquiry, stating their approach was to consider Kyran as missing and presumed deceased. Despite the missing person investigation commencing in August, investigators suspect Kyran’s death may have occurred over two years prior. Gardaí, who are probing Kyran’s disappearance and murder, apprehended the man on Thursday under suspicion of murder. He is currently held at a Garda station situated in the eastern part of the Republic of Ireland. Law enforcement officers involved in the investigation have also been conducting searches at two residences in Drogheda, seeking any relevant information regarding Kyran’s location or the circumstances of his fate. The search at one of these properties has concluded, with gardaí indicating that no additional specifics would be disclosed. The search at the second property, assisted by a cadaver dog, is anticipated to proceed for an extended period. Gardaí further noted that this house and its gardens would undergo an intrusive search, alongside technical and forensic assessments. Previously, on Tuesday, a woman was apprehended on suspicion of murder. She was subsequently released without any charges on Wednesday. An Garda Síochána maintains its appeal for individuals possessing information pertinent to the case to present it. In 2022, Kyran attended the national [primary] school situated close to his residence in Dundalk. It is understood that officials were informed of his impending relocation to Northern Ireland and enrollment in a new school in Newry. School administrators in Dundalk, where Kyran resided with his mother, were reportedly advised at the conclusion of the 2022 summer term that he would be schooling across the border; however, this assertion remained unconfirmed.
