The outgoing Armagh GAA county chairperson stated that the GAA has “worked tirelessly and diligently” in its cooperation with the PSNI’s inquiry into an alleged assault that occurred during a team excursion to the United States. Approximately 100 individuals traveled to Miami, Florida, in November to commemorate the team’s All-Ireland victory. A 30-year-old man was apprehended on suspicion of sexual assault and compelling an individual to participate in sexual activity without consent. He has subsequently been granted bail while further investigations proceed. Paul McArdle, the outgoing Armagh GAA chairman, informed the organization’s annual convention that the body “fully understand our clubs and members are concerned and aware of recent reports of an alleged incident in Miami.” He added that “Armagh GAA has and will continue to fully support and cooperate with everyone to ensure procedures are followed.” The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed its leadership of the investigation into the alleged assault, noting that its inquiries are ongoing. A spokesperson stated, “Investigating officers from the police service have sought ongoing assistance from law enforcement partners in the United States using international liaison channels.” Under the provisions of The Sexual Offences (NI) Order 2008, the PSNI is empowered to investigate offenses committed internationally, provided both the victim and the suspect are residents of Northern Ireland. Patrick Higgins of Donnelly and Wall Solicitors issued a statement on behalf of the unnamed arrested man, asserting that his client had “voluntarily presented himself to the PSNI.” The solicitor further stated, “He co-operated fully with the PSNI in the initial stages of the investigation,” and added, “He is innocent of all charges and vows to do everything in his power to clear his name.” Post navigation Police Seek Armed Robber Following Cash Converters Robberies The Archbishop of Canterbury’s Resignation Deemed “Very Sad”
