Approval has been granted for the construction of a 66-bed care home situated near the A5, on the periphery of Telford. This project forms a component of a broader development located in Redhill, which also encompasses a new Lidl supermarket, a drive-through Costa coffee shop, an M&S retail unit, and a petrol station. The comprehensive development received approval in July, at which time outline permission was also granted for the care home. Specifics regarding the care home’s aesthetic and configuration have now received final endorsement. According to a design and access statement presented to Telford & Wrekin Council, the three-storey establishment is intended for older individuals and those living with dementia. The architectural plans incorporate a secure landscaped garden, with the designers asserting that the project offers “accommodation that would provide a higher quality of life for residents than more conventionally designed facilities”. The statement further indicated that the development was “respectful of the character and appearance of the area” and optimized the utilization of the site. Entry to the facility will be via Marsh Meadow Way, with plans for 25 parking spaces, alongside a designated ambulance/taxi drop-off zone featuring three disabled/mobility spaces positioned near the primary entrance. The proposals also include the provision of a secure bicycle storage area. The developers of the project anticipate the creation of 50 to 60 employment opportunities, with personnel operating on a rotational shift schedule. They stated, “The majority of the jobs created at the care home would also be expected to be filled by suitable candidates from the same local area,”. Furthermore, it was noted that residents of the facility are anticipated to originate from an area within a three-mile radius of the site or have family members residing nearby.
