Permission has been granted for a project to construct four contemporary residences, replacing an existing two-story derelict house. The applicants, 8G Architects, had submitted a request to develop three detached houses and a bungalow on the substantial plot located on Bowring Road in Ramsey. This undertaking will necessitate the demolition of the current St Olave’s House, a structure that is not officially registered. According to the applicant, construction on this development is slated to commence in early 2025, with an estimated completion timeframe of approximately 18 months. The planning statement indicated that the proposed houses would feature a high-quality design intended to “make a positive contribution to the character of the area whilst preserving levels of amenity for nearby dwellings”. The statement characterized the extensive land parcel, positioned next to the banks of the Sulby River, as “clearly capable of accommodating residential development”. Furthermore, the developer noted that primary challenges included establishing property access that was “safe and visually acceptable”, alongside “the ability to develop the site whilst retaining the eucalyptus and sycamore trees close to the entrance”. Separately, Fairway Construction Ltd has also submitted an application for the construction of three townhouses on the adjoining land situated along Jurby Road. This latter application has not yet undergone review by the planning committee.
