Plans for a 90-bed care facility have received approval as an integral component of a 1,200-home residential complex situated on the former military barracks site in Surrey. The Deepcut regeneration, encompassing 114 hectares (282 acres), is currently well under way. The proposals for the care home, put forth by CHD Living, were unanimously endorsed at Surrey Heath Borough Council’s November planning meeting, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service. This establishment is designed to include 70 care beds and 20 care suites, specifically intended for “elderly, frail and dementia residents who require high level 24 hour care”. Planning officer Sarita Bishop stated: “I think this is a very important site, it’s the first thing you see when you come in.“In terms of what is being proposed, I think it is design excellence, it will be an absolute attribute to this part of the site.” Its design, as noted in planning documents, aims “to evoke the character of a traditional vernacular farmyard,” featuring a substantial central barn and a series of smaller, elongated wings resembling stables. The building will incorporate reception areas, a kitchen, a bistro, laundry facilities, a hydro pool, a gym, a cinema, and offices. The former military barracks site holds permission for 1,200 new residential units, with the care home being provided as part of a community agreement established with the developers.
