A pub chain has received authorization to refurbish a vacant unit within Glasgow Central Station. The proprietors of All Bar One intend to lease the premises located above M&S Simply Food in the station. This particular site was previously home to the Central Bar eight years ago and has been unoccupied ever since. Pub giant Wetherspoons had initially secured approval to open a pub at this location, but those plans were withdrawn in 2022. The forthcoming bar/restaurant will mark the second All Bar One in the city, with the inaugural establishment situated at the corner of St Vincent Street and West Nile Street. Glasgow City Council affirmed that the refurbishment would not diminish the historical character of the building, a condition also stipulated in the original Wetherspoons plan. Mitchells & Butlers, the owners of All Bar One, will rent the space from Network Rail and plan to execute a “similar fit out” to that envisioned by Wetherspoons. They stated their intention to implement “minor” interior modifications and to add new lighting to the main entrance.
