A Derbyshire company, P.M Harris Ltd, has received approval for a storage facility capable of holding 700 cars, supporting its expansion efforts. The South Derbyshire District Council’s planning committee granted permission for the project on Tuesday, designating its location at The Mease industrial estate, situated off Lowman Way in Hilton. Council members were informed that this development would facilitate the growth of a local car sales firm, which remains unnamed. Due to concerns regarding potential noise disturbance to new residential properties located nearby on The Mease, an area previously occupied by the Ministry of Defence, the committee imposed restrictions on the site’s operating hours. Specifically, the facility is permitted to operate from 07:00 to 19:00 on weekdays and from 08:00 to 13:00 on Saturdays, with all activities prohibited on Sundays and bank holidays. The Local Democracy Reporting Service reported that attendees at the meeting were informed of an anticipated 80 daily car movements (40 arrivals and 40 departures) and two daily movements involving vehicle transporters. In the event that alarms from all 700 vehicles were to activate simultaneously during nighttime hours, a contact telephone number would be posted externally at the site, enabling individuals to reach the owners. Furthermore, council members endorsed a condition mandating the implementation of pollution prevention strategies to safeguard against the leakage of oil and other materials into nearby water sources.
