A dog that experienced anxiety and resided for over 1,000 days in a Leicestershire kennel facility has successfully been rehomed just before Christmas. Blossom, who arrived at Dogs Trust Loughborough in March 2020, had two unsuccessful attempts at rehoming because of her apprehension concerning traffic, other canines, and individuals. However, personnel at the Wymeswold facility utilized a simulated home setting to assist the seven-year-old German shepherd in acquiring coping mechanisms for her anxiety. A new owner has been gradually settling her in since August, stating that rehoming Blossom before Christmas “has been the best gift I could ever ask for”. Dogs Trust attributes Blossom’s success in overcoming her anxiety to the Education House technique, which is the aforementioned mocked-up home environment. The new owner, whose identity remains undisclosed, also contributed to establishing the tranquil surroundings necessary for Blossom. The two now intend to celebrate Christmas by visiting a rural cabin, where they anticipate numerous walks. The owner expressed: “I’m so happy to have Blossom home for the festive season.” She added: “Despite her tough start, Blossom has really settled in well and you can tell how hard Dogs Trust has worked to make her feel more comfortable.” Celine Di Crocco, the manager of the Wymeswold centre, conveyed the team’s satisfaction at witnessing their dedicated efforts with Blossom culminate in a positive outcome. However, she remarked: “After almost three years in our care, it would be impossible to forget Blossom!”
