On Friday, close to 200 individuals participated in a demonstration advocating for enhanced street safety for women, girls, and LGBTQ+ individuals. This marked the second iteration of the Foxstrut event, with participants proceeding from Horseshoe Common to The Triangle in Bournemouth. Attendees wore fox costumes, symbolizing the animals’ resilience and their capacity to readily reclaim urban environments. Jayne Jackson, the event’s organiser and a photographer, stated that the event’s positive outcome served as “proof that Bournemouth stands with us.” She further commented, “We were overwhelmed by the sheer enthusiasm and support from both strutters and passers-by.” Jackson added, “People stopped, asked questions, and once they understood our mission, every single one of them offered encouragement – thumbs up, cheers, and smiles.” Lorna Rees, a co-creator of the event, described this year’s gathering as “bigger, brighter, and bolder” compared to the previous one. She remarked, “The atmosphere was joyous, and it’s clear that this town truly embraces what we’re doing,” concluding with, “This is just the beginning.” Ms. Jackson expressed that she was “deeply moved” by the turnout. She elaborated, “Reclaiming the streets is about more than safety,” adding, “It’s about visibility, community, and joy.” For updates, BBC Dorset can be followed on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), or Instagram.
