Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim declared that Andre Onana’s error during Thursday’s match against Viktoria Plzen will not define him, as the Reds prepare for their upcoming fixture against Manchester City on Sunday. Amorim addressed questions concerning the Cameroon international after Onana’s imprecise pass led to Matej Vydra scoring the opening goal in the Europa League contest. The United boss stated, “Yeah we have to take it like it is. He had already in the past a situation like that. So we have to work on this. If you see the play, we are trying to build up a lot with the goalkeeper making the balls with [Matthijs de Ligt] a lot of times. This time we have a disconnect a little bit during the play and when we tried this, we suffered a goal. A difficult goal for us in the start of the second half.” A brace from Rasmus Hojlund subsequently reversed the game’s momentum, resulting in a 2-1 victory for United. Amorim explained that when such a mistake occurs, the team is collectively responsible for rectifying it, much like Onana holds the responsibility for making critical saves to help the Reds secure points. He further added, “We managed [Viktoria], not like against Nottingham. We managed to help Onana, like he did in the past for us.”
