An American family is traveling over 4,600 miles to attend a carnival in the UK, expressing they are “super excited” to experience it firsthand. Tiffany Crumrine, a 52-year-old from Colorado, discovered the Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival on TikTok last year and stated she “could not get enough” of it. She described it by saying, “The floats, the lights, the music, the coordinated choreography. It’s like nothing I have ever seen before.” The illuminated procession, located in Somerset and recognized as Europe’s largest, is scheduled to commence at 18:00 BST on Saturday, with an anticipated attendance of 130,000 to 150,000 individuals in the town. Ms Crumrine made the decision to reserve a hotel room in Bridgwater after a video showcasing the carnival procession “wound up” on her TikTok feed. She informed the BBC, “After seeing the video I followed the account and just could not get enough of the parade.” The annual West Country carnival circuits are celebrations that occur around Bonfire Night and trace their origins to the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. Throughout the year, carnival clubs across the region dedicate themselves to creating carts for the parades, with construction costs amounting to thousands of pounds. Ms Crumrine further stated, “The lights and the music, everyone spinning out of control and the different themes is right up our alley.” She will be attending the carnival alongside her 76-year-old father, Bob Crumrine, who has no prior experience flying overseas. She mentioned, “I asked him if he would come along. He was all on board.” She added, “My father and I are both big nerds, so we can’t wait to see the engineering of the floats, the hydraulics, the speakers, everything.” She continued, “He was a DJ and used to have an amusement ride, so loves this kind of stuff. He has been watching YouTube videos non-stop since we decided to do this.” The duo is scheduled to arrive in London on Friday, followed by a brief tour of the West Country, which includes visits to Bath and Weston-super-Mare, before reaching Bridgwater for a fireworks event and a lantern parade. Ms Crumrine stated, “We fly in on Friday and will go back after the weekend. We’re coming predominately for the carnival and we can’t wait for it.”
