West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph has received a two-match suspension. This disciplinary action follows an incident during the third one-day international against England, where Joseph left the field after a disagreement with captain Shai Hope. Joseph’s performance in the match included figures of 2-45 from 10 overs, despite him having exited the field of play on two occasions. The 27-year-old Joseph expressed dissatisfaction with a field placement while he was bowling. He notably did not celebrate the dismissal of Jordan Cox before exiting the field at the conclusion of the fourth over. The West Indies team commenced the subsequent over with only ten players on the field. Joseph later departed the field once more following two misfields that occurred during his bowling. In a public apology, Joseph stated: “My passion got the best of me. I understand that even a brief lapse in judgement can have a far-reaching impact, and I deeply regret any disappointment caused.” Joseph confirmed that he had offered apologies to Captain Hope, his fellow team-mates, and the management. He also extended his “sincerest apologies” to the supporters of West Indies cricket. In Barbados, the host team decisively defeated England by eight wickets, securing a 2-1 victory in the ODI series. The West Indies are scheduled to compete against England in an upcoming five-match T20 series. The initial two matches of this series are set to be held in Barbados on Saturday and Sunday. Miles Bascombe, the director of cricket for Cricket West Indies, commented that Joseph’s conduct “did not align with the core values” of the team. Bascombe further stated: “Such conduct cannot be overlooked, and we have taken decisive action to ensure the gravity of the situation is fully acknowledged.”
