Ahead of the upcoming general election, electors will have an opportunity to question candidates for the Alderney States during an event structured in a “speed dating” format. Nine individuals are competing for five available seats within the Alderney States, with the general election scheduled for Saturday, 16 November. The “speed hustings” event, set for Tuesday, 12 November, will feature candidates delivering a one-minute introductory statement. Following this, they will have 10 minutes to respond to queries at a table assigned at random. The States president will signal the end of each session with a bell, prompting candidates to rotate to a different table to engage with voters. According to President William Tate, the event is designed to mirror the speed dating model, providing attendees with “a real sense of what each candidate offers.” Those planning to attend the gathering at the Island Hall were requested to arrive between 18:45 and 19:00 GMT.
