The Kent Surrey Sussex air ambulance (KSS) charity has bestowed a lifetime achievement award upon its founder, Kate Chivers. The presentation took place at an event commemorating the 35th anniversary of the charity’s establishment in November 1989. Ms. Chivers received the award in recognition of her efforts in establishing the service as an independent charity after it faced a cessation of funding from local health authorities. She expressed her sentiments, stating: “I can’t tell you how much this means to me. There’s nothing in this world that can’t be achieved with determination and the desire to make things better.” She further remarked: “Who would have thought our fledgling would become such a beautiful eagle?” Since its inception in 1989, KSS has reported completing 46,000 missions, covering an area of 3,500 square miles across Kent, Surrey, and Sussex. David Welch, the chief executive of KSS, commented on the milestone: “We’ve been on an incredible journey during the past 35 years, thanks to the vision and determination of Kate and the amazing support of our staff, volunteers, former patients and their families, supporters and Trustees.”
