Proposals to redevelop a disused plot in Lincolnshire have progressed following the finalization of a land sale agreement. The St Martin’s Park initiative is slated to include the construction of offices, shops, houses, and a retirement village on the former Cummins generator factory grounds in Stamford. South Kesteven District Council (SKDC) acquired the parcel in 2018 with the intention of reserving it for employment purposes; however, the location has stayed undeveloped since then. Councillor Richard Cleaver, who serves as SKDC’s cabinet member for property and public engagement, characterized the accord as a “significant milestone” within what he described as a “challenging project.” Cleaver further stated: “This is a major development that will transform a derelict site into a thriving addition to the Stamford community.” Morris Homes is designated to undertake the residential construction, while Inspired Living will manage the retirement village component, and Burghley Land Ltd will oversee the commercial aspects. When combined with neighboring property belonging to the Burghley House Preservation Trust, the entire development area spans 14.7 hectares (36 acres). SKDC confirmed that preliminary planning approval for the location was issued in 2021. The subsequent phase of the planning procedure involves the three developers presenting their applications in early 2025, alongside a comprehensive plan for implementing shared infrastructure projects. Information previously disclosed indicated that SKDC had been incurring monthly costs of £21,000 to maintain the site’s electricity supply.
