Apprehension has been voiced regarding a substantial concrete wall section that protrudes over a cliff face, situated above a beach in East Sussex. Richard Weston, a local inhabitant, stated that the considerable foot traffic at the base of the cliff on Newhaven West beach was “worrying”. He further commented that the concrete was “teetering” at the cliff’s summit and presented as “highly unstable as there was much erosion beneath it”. Lewes District Council issued a statement urging the public to “must adhere to warning signs and stay away from the area at the top and bottom of the cliff face”. The authority clarified that the concrete slab has been present in its current location for many years. In a formal declaration, the council explained that the slab had become more visible and exposed due to the steady erosion of the cliff. It further stated, “Due to its size and location, we are liaising with engineering specialists with experience of working on cliff faces along the south coast and the Maritime Coastguard Agency.”
