An adolescent has received a minimum sentence of 22 years’ detention for the murder of an individual who identified him before succumbing to his injuries. Sanchez Tate, aged 18, fatally stabbed Mohamed Abdi Noor, 21, in the chest. This occurred last December on Tufnell Park Road in Islington, north London, following an accusation by Mr Abdi Noor that Tate had knocked over his motorbike. Tate, the defendant, asserted that his actions were in self-defence; however, a jury at the Old Bailey found him guilty. Additionally, on Thursday, at the same judicial venue, he received a 15-month sentence for the offense of carrying a bladed article in a public area. The stabbing of Mr Abdi Noor in the chest took place on the street where both he and his assailant resided. Testimony presented in court indicated that Mr Abdi Noor possessed a “passion for pedal cycles and motorbikes” and had previously informed his wife about a prior incident reportedly involving Tate. Metropolitan Police responded to reports of an altercation on the road around 19:30 GMT. The jury was informed that Tate fled towards his residence and was apprehended shortly thereafter. Prosecution barrister Catherine Pattison stated: “Before he lost consciousness, Mr Abdi Noor said ‘Sanchez’ and repeated it – meaning the name of the person who had stabbed him. “The level of violence was out of all proportion for what was needed to rob someone.”It has the hallmarks of targeted, if spontaneous, violence against a known individual, whatever lay behind it.” Detective Chief Inspector Larry Smith, who headed the inquiry, commented that there were “no winners” in this matter and that Tate, who was 17 years old at the time, “would have a good deal of time in prison to reflect on the callous stupidity of his actions”. He expressed gratitude to the witnesses who intervened in an attempt to halt the assault. “They also alerted emergency services, assisted with first aid, made statements to police and gave crucial evidence at the trial,” he further remarked.
