Adam Mackintosh, a 28-year-old from Thornaby, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the killing of his former friend. Mackintosh, who was found guilty of manslaughter earlier this week, received his sentence at Teesside Crown Court. In June, Mackintosh stabbed 23-year-old Lloyd Donkin at Wrensfield Road in Stockton, County Durham. Mr. Donkin subsequently died in hospital a short time later. Following the sentencing, Mr. Donkin’s family stated: “All the memories we wanted to make with him have been snatched away from us.” A statement released by Mr. Donkin’s mother and family read: “Finding out my son had died and in such a terrible way is indescribable. “I can’t look at a knife without wondering what pain my baby went through.” Senior Investigating Officer Matt Hollingsworth, from Cleveland Police, indicated that the dispute began after an altercation between the two individuals on Valentine’s Day. He remarked, “Mackintosh and Lloyd had known each other for a number of years and were at one time good friends, often spending time in each other’s company.” Mr. Hollingsworth also noted that Mr. Donkin attempted to disarm his assailant but was stabbed once on the left side of his chest.
