An actor specializing in Shakespearean roles has revisited his former school as part of an initiative aimed at fostering appreciation for the playwright’s works within educational institutions. Bally Gill, who departed President Kennedy School in Coventry a decade ago, has since built a career appearing in films, television dramas, and various Shakespearean plays. Currently performing in *Twelfth Night* with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) in Stratford upon Avon, he remarked: “Coventry people have a lot to offer and we’re the future, these young people are the future.” The RSC announced that over 24,000 children are projected to engage with Shakespeare’s plays next year via its First Encounters programme. Mr. Gill shared with the students that his acting career “saved me a little bit, because it gave me some focus and drive and passion.” He urged the pupils to pursue similar paths, adding: “Just watch them.” The RSC stated its objective was to demonstrate that “Shakespeare is relevant and resonant to their lives. “It isn’t for the elite, it isn’t for people that can afford to go to Stratford. We go to you.” For updates, connect with BBC Coventry & Warwickshire on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram. This content is Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
