Andy Holt, who has owned Accrington Stanley since 2015, is scheduled to relinquish his role as the club’s chairman by late 2025. While he intends to maintain his support for the club, Holt will withdraw from its daily operational management. David Burgess is set to assume the position of Accrington’s chairman, and Warren Eastham will take on the responsibilities of chief executive officer. Speaking to the club’s external website, Holt stated: “These changes future-proof our club, as age takes its toll.” He further added: “In any successful business, you need progression, and nowhere is it more important than football.” On 1 January, Burgess will take up the vice-chairman role, collaborating with Holt on all football-related aspects, including working with the first-team manager and the club’s academy personnel. Concurrently, Eastham will oversee commercial affairs. Holt’s plan is then to depart later in the year, enabling Burgess to transition into the chairman position. Holt, currently 60 years old, has held ownership of Accrington since October 2015, assuming the chairmanship less than a year afterward following the departure of his predecessor, Peter Marsden. Under Holt’s leadership, Accrington achieved promotion to League One in 2018. However, after spending five years in the third division, Stanley faced relegation in 2023 and are presently positioned 20th in League Two. Accrington has consistently operated with a modest playing budget, often outperforming expectations. Holt himself has been a vocal personality, consistently expressing his views on various matters. Notable among these was his contentious choice to remove long-serving manager John Coleman in March of this year, a decision for which Holt stated he had been “too loyal.” Beyond the field, significant efforts have been made to enhance facilities at Wham Stadium, encompassing a new pitch and stands, leading him to characterize the club as being in a “great place.” He asserted: “Accrington Stanley is no longer a lagging club amongst peers; it’s a leading club, with all the ingredients for a great future, delivering for the town and its folk, long after the current crew is gone.” Holt concluded by stating: “I’m looking forward to watching its stable development with pride.”
