Motorists are advised to anticipate interruptions due to the closure of a significant road for resurfacing. According to National Highways, the A40 westbound section connecting Cheltenham and Gloucester is scheduled to close from 20:00 GMT on Friday until 06:00 GMT on Monday. This complete closure will encompass the stretch from M5 junction 11 (Golden Valley Interchange) to the Elmbridge Court roundabout. Kevin Gibbs, a project manager for National Highways, stated: “We advise drivers to plan ahead and allow a little extra time. Once complete, these improvements will benefit road users for many years to come.” Commencing Monday, additional overnight closures are planned between the Arle Court and Elmbridge Court roundabouts, continuing until 19 November, with weekends excluded. During the weekend road closure, motorists can reach Cheltenham through M5 junction 11 as usual, or Gloucester by utilizing the B4063 diversion or junction 11A. On weeknights, individuals exiting the M5 at junction 11 will have access to the A40 exclusively in the eastbound direction, with well-marked alternative routes also provided for HGVs. Mr. Gibbs further commented: “To minimise disruption, we’re carrying out the work on the one weekend and weeknights when traffic flows are at their lowest.“We understand that road closures can be frustrating, we’re keeping the closures to an absolute minimum and we thank all drivers in advance for their co-operation and patience while we carry out these essential works.”
