A car driver has sustained life-threatening injuries following a severe collision involving multiple vehicles, including a lorry. Thames Valley Police indicated that the southbound section of the A34 was expected to remain closed for several hours between Didcot and Chilton as investigations proceeded. According to National Highways, the southbound carriageway continued to be closed from the A4130 at Didcot to the A4185 at Chilton. The South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) reported that the driver was transported via road to the major trauma unit at Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital. National Highways confirmed that the northbound carriageway, which had been closed previously, has now reopened. “The operation to turn traffic caught within the closure continues but is difficult due to location,” National Highways further stated. Authorities have urged the public to steer clear of the vicinity and seek alternative routes. A spokesperson for SCAS mentioned that they received notification regarding the incident shortly after 13:00 GMT. The spokesperson confirmed that two ambulances, a paramedic team leader operating a rapid response vehicle, and the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance helicopter responded to the scene.
