A major thoroughfare close to the Port of Dover experienced a five-hour closure on Saturday. This occurred subsequent to a multi-vehicle collision that resulted in a fire, which was initially thought to have compromised the road surface. The A2 Jubilee Way was inaccessible in both directions, specifically between the A258 near Swingate and the A20. Preparations for emergency resurfacing were made, but subsequent evaluations determined it was not required. National Highways reported that the road closures were initially anticipated to extend overnight into Sunday, with motorists being redirected onto alternative local routes. Emergency responders were dispatched to the location around 15:25 GMT, where they verified that no injuries had occurred and that the blaze had been put out. In a statement, Kent Fire and Rescue Service communicated: “Two fire engines attended and crews, wearing breathing apparatus, used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.” National Highways indicated that the thoroughfare was inaccessible from 16:39 until 21:43.
