A section of the A2 has been shut in both directions following a collision involving five vehicles and a diesel spill, which necessitates the road’s resurfacing. This closure affects the segment of road between the A258 (Swingate) and the A20 (Dover), located close to the Port of Dover. The incident occurred approximately at 20:15 GMT on Wednesday. Kent County Council indicated that the route is anticipated to remain inaccessible for an extended duration due to a “significant” oil spillage. National Highways confirmed that while the initial clear-up operations are finished, the road surface will still need to be replaced. “At present, there is currently no estimate for when reopening of the road can take place,” a spokesman stated. Emergency services are redirecting traffic at the site using alternative local routes. Kent Police reported that no serious injuries resulted from the incident.
