A section of a principal road has been reopened following a collision that involved two lorries. The A19 had been closed in the northbound direction, specifically between the A67 at Crathorne, North Yorkshire, and the Teesport turn-off on the A174 at Thornaby, Teesside. The incident took place at approximately 05:00 GMT, and a “significant clear-up operation” was required because both vehicles had spilled their loads, as stated by National Highways. Both the northbound and southbound carriageways were reopened before 16:00 GMT, following extensive delays. No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident. Cleveland Police were present at the scene, among other emergency services. Tom Loach, representing National Highways, indicated that both vehicles sustained “substantial” damage. He mentioned that a team of 32 individuals participated in the clean-up operation. Mr Loach stated, “One of the HGVs was carrying shopping goods, milk and eggs, cooking oil.”
