A segment of a primary thoroughfare connecting the north to the Manx capital has resumed operation, having been closed for the continuation of surveying activities in preparation for significant refurbishment works. Specifically, the southern portion of the A18 Mountain Road, spanning from the Brandywell Road junction to the Creg ny Baa Back Road, was inaccessible until 16:30 GMT. These operations are integral to a road safety improvement programme, which mandates surveying works prior to a month-long resurfacing project scheduled for the spring. In addition to this planned closure, the Department of Infrastructure reported that the Thot-y-Will Road to Sulby was also closed for the removal of an “unsafe tree,” a task that was ongoing. While planned works proceeded on Monday, a broader closure encompassing the entire road was enacted to enable the Department of Infrastructure to clear drainage channels following Storm Darragh. Two further daily closures of the route’s southern section for surveying are scheduled for 16 to 17 December. Last week, Monday’s anticipated closure was postponed due to high winds, although the planned surveying works were carried out on Tuesday.
